Connecting People to Affordable Groceries & Reducing Food Waste

About us

Help us, help you

Join our mission to help people get affordable food while reducing food waste.

The Meaning Behind Our Name: glean groceries

The name "Glean Groceries" perfectly encapsulates the mission behind our platform. Gleaning is the practice of “collecting leftover crops from farmers' fields after they have been commercially harvested”. Glean Groceries embodies this same mission while making this process more modern with innovation by using technology and community based sustainability to achieve our goal of helping people find affordable food while limiting the amount of food waste grocery stores output.

“Community based sustainability driven by innovation”

4 Core Values

We aim to create positive community change by helping people find more affordable food while tackling food waste, fostering support and connection.

Community

Sustainability

We are committed to reducing food waste by redistributing excess groceries, helping to preserve our planet’s resources.

Innovation

We continuously seek innovative solutions to improve our platform and processes, ensuring efficiency in redirecting excess food to those who need it most.

Our main mission is to help people find affordable food. Our platform increases access to the best deals at grocery stores.

Accessibility

Our model:

We operate to create opportunities for both grocery stores and people looking for affordable food. We help grocery stores boost profits by selling their items that would have gone to waste while giving customers access to affordable grocery items.

Our Origin Story: The Birth of Food Squared

Food Squared was born out of a startling revelation: over 92 billion pounds of food go to waste each year in the USA alone. This immense waste occurs alongside the sobering reality that over 44 million Americans face food insecurity, meaning they lack consistent access to healthy food options. These two intertwined issues sparked the inception of our platform, driven by a desire to make affordable groceries more accessible.

Our founding team, deeply moved by these statistics, embarked on a journey of brainstorming and market research to find a viable solution. We recognized that the surplus of food being wasted could be redirected to those in need, but we needed a sustainable and efficient method to make this happen. Through our research, we identified a promising strategy: selling excess groceries at a discount. This also led us to find our valuable mission of making affordable groceries just as accessible as regular ones.
